Winner of the 2020-2021 Federal Duck Stamp

The artwork of Eufaula’s Eddie LeRoy is featured on the 2020-2021 Federal Duck Stamp that is now on sale.

Eddie’s acrylic painting of a black-bellied whistling-duck pair was chosen over 190 entries in this year’s competition, which was held Patuxent Research Refuge in Laurel, Maryland.

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service produces the Federal Duck Stamp. The stamp sells for $25 and is responsible for raising approximately $40 million each year. Those funds are used to purchase and protect wetland habitats in the National Wildlife Refuge System.

For this year’s contest, artists could choose one of five waterfowl species: the black-bellied whistling duck, emperor goose, American black duck, bufflehead or northern shoveler.

The federal duck stamp win was the first for Eddie LeRoy. His artwork has appeared on the Alabama State Duck Stamp in 1999, 2005 and 2015.

Since 1934, federal duck stamps have raised more than $1 billion and conserved over 6 million acres of habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife. Lands acquired with federal duck stamp funds are managed as part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, providing public access for hunting, fishing, hiking, wildlife watching, and other forms of outdoor recreation.
